Jilly Coppercorn, from Charles de Lint's Newford series. A small, wiry, light skinned woman with wildly curly brown hair and bright blue eyes. Almost certainly wearing loose-fitting clothes. Odds are good she's got paint under her fingernails or charcoal smudged somewhere. Maybe both. She smells faintly of turps and coffee.

Newford is a medium sized city somewhere in North America. Cold, snowy winters, hot summers. No coast, but rivers, and lightly forested hills. Native communities and farms nearby. It's a world with magic. And fey. Fairies, boggarts, the big and little mysteries native to the continent.. they're all just around the corner, in the shadows, what you see before you turn around. Most of the folks in Newford disbelieve, or are ignorant about that aspect of their world. Sometimes wilfully so. Jilly's comfortable with both, sees keenly into corners and shadows, and peoples her artwork with their denizens. She's also used to her friends not believing her about magic, but loves them anyway.
